Ronnie's Round 8 Wrap Up

Makos on the March

Heading into the final third of any season, you expect all teams to be operating like clockwork. There will be sore bodies, certainly, but on and off the field sporting teams should be running smoothly. No greater evidence need be provided after witnessing the Mandurah Makos take the field on Sunday.

With Alf Cummings, Shaun Kelly, Tony Wilkey and Michael Griffiths taking care of matters off field, the players operated with clockwork precision.

The Masters took the field first with a complete team effort punctuated by Brad Smith mopping up across the half back line and Brendan Johnston involved in everything up forward.

For the Supers, the midfield combination of Jade Irving and Brendan King were spoon fed by ruckman, Kyle Quirk. The Vic Park defence was constantly under pressure as the Makos repeatedly sent the ball forward with precision.

The Seniors had similar success with Anthony Simoni tapping the ball down the throats of the midfielders who then fed the ball to dominant forwards, Peter Boyce and Paul Caz.

Some people may have claimed that the media’s response to Port Adelaide’s last gasp win against St Kilda was an overreaction but to see a ruckman provide their onballers with such expert delivery is truly a thing of beauty and there was plenty of that on display in the Makos’ most recent outing.
